Okay, so maybe the M70 is venturing out of notebook territory just a bit. It weighs in at a stellar 4.4kg (9.7lbs!), but with all that weight comes the power to back it up: standard is a 2.0GHz Dothan processor, with 512MB RAM, and nVidia GeForce Go 6600 graphics. A 1680 x 1050 resolution widescreen LCD panel delivers the imagery.
The Samsung X1, on the other hand, seems to be the polar opposite of the M70. As seen here, the X1 is a sleek and thin unit (less than a thumb’s width, supposedly), with non-conventional placement of CD/DVD unit. This moves the entire keyboard to the front, which Samsung claims to be a positive. But one has to wonder how comfortable prolonged typing on that keyboard would be without any kind of wrist support. The X1 features a battery-conscious 1.2GHz CPU with a 14″ 1280 x 768 widescreen panel – which isn’t shabby at all. It has other unique features such as SRS surround sound and a built-in remote control.
