From Mighty Atom to Frugal Laptop

The makers of the O2 Atom are in the news again.

Quanta has been contracted in a project to make laptops available for virtually anyone and especially targeting people of developing nations.  Can’t help thinking that the device could be similar to my very first WindowsCE device — difference being my HP 320LX was about HK$ 7000 when it first came out and had no wind-up tool to charge the batteries!

They aim to have the laptop available for under US$100. I’m sure plenty of people would like to get their hands on one of these and see how far they can tweak it!

Is it possible now to make and sell this 8 year old gadget for US$100?
