This is interesting news, coming on the heels of the Xbox 360 launch yesterday in Hong Kong. There are rumors that due to a weakness in the firmware, a hacker by the name of TheSpecialist has cracked or is close to cracking the 360. This will mean… well, you all know what it means:
In practice, this would mean that the drive could gain
the capability to boot backups of original game DVD’s by flashing a
self-built firmware in there which ignores the mandatory disc signing.
With news that the PS3 is not due until November 2006, will this help persuade more gamers to pick up the Xbox 360?
