THE BASICS

If you have lived in the U.S., you may have already heard of Netflix.  Movieflys works in the same manner. The idea is quite simple: sign up, pay online, put movies into a "queue", and wait for the DVDs to appear!

Titles and selections are constantly being added. Movieflys started with 150 titles but as of this month (October 2006) they will be carrying over 1,000 movies.  With daily additions, the number is expected to exceed 2,000 before year’s end. If you come across a title they don’t carry, simply email them and they will add your request to their collection as soon as possible.

There are currently 3 different rental packages available:

Price per month
 Price per month*

Number of DVDs you can keep concurrently

HK$149 HK$99   1
HK$199  HK$149  2
HK$239  HK$199  3

*new prices valid as of October 10, 2006

Going with the HK$239 plan will allow you to keep up to 3 DVDs at the same time. Postage is included both ways and there are no late fees since due dates do not exist.  When you are done, simply seal the DVD inside the return envelope and drop it off in your nearest postbox. (posting box locations: HK, Kowloon, NT, Outlying Islands)

Packaging: the protective sleeve, return envelope, and delivery envelope.

Before the end of the year, Movieflys will introduce new and improved packaging:

The new envelope is designed to be lightweight, compact (half of the current
size), and durable.  It will flip-open and hold two DVDs together,
allowing customers to enjoy the special features Disc 2 for movie titles like Rent, Memoirs of a Geisha,
and The Incredibles for the rental of 1 DVD. These second discs usually include behind the scenes, extra commentaries, interviews and bonus features.

Movie queue: order of delivery can be adjusted on the
left, but pay attention to the "availability" column, as you do not
necessarily want a "long wait" title as the next movie in line.

EXPERIENCE

My 30 days experience with Movieflys.com has been excellent. E-mail notices were sent during and after movie processing to let me know when they had received my DVD or mailed out my next movie. The turnover time of returning a movie and receiving the next was approximately 4 days.

Thank you for using Movieflys.com

I found Movieflys.com to be a great resource to new movies and many movies HK cinemas choose to pass over.  It’s reasonably priced and hassle-free.

(edit October 12, 2006: with the starting price down to $99/month, it’s even more reasonably priced – in my opinion)
