I just got a new Dopod D810 and therefore have decided to change to a 3G network.
Alternative data plan offer to smart-tone one mentioned above, which is not bad (in Hong Kong) at the moment is Hutchison “3” network’s plan… join any 3G phone plan (I joined HK$128 plan HK$12 for tunnel / mtr use and then I also get less $40 per month for changing way from the Sunday network – so HK$100 per month for 3G phone use).
With any 3G package you can get an add on of 500MB of data transfer per month for HK$88 (also until the 31st March 500MB per month is also free… so only after 31st march do you start paying… then it is HK$88 per month). This add-on is called their “Home PC” package.
So all together is HK$188 if I stick to less than 500MB per month of data transfer (and HK$0.06 per MB I exceed).
This is also a lot cheaper way of getting data access compated to their standard data package rates (500MB under their standard rates is HK$288, rather than HK$88 – stange but it is good that they have this Home plan!!!…. – so great the 3G data wars have started!!!
For Home PC HK$88 plan pls see (is no English version of this on their website)- http://xseries.three.com.hk/we…cing.shtml
Standard data plan which is more expensive if use over 5MB per month (cheaper if use a lot as can get unlimted for HK$48, pls see http://www.three.com.hk/websit…0&lang=eng
Also on top (if can use java propietry software which a couple of phone models only support), rather than pdas as such (i.e. apparently the D810 can’t be used for this extra bonus) – as part of the Home PC package you can also get MSN, Yahoo access unlimted included in this price on top of the 500MB per month. Guess the java is so they know it is not data transfer (pity can not be used on dopod – smile) – but 500MB not including this extra for my Dopod is ok for now for me to try it out.
Also there is no contract for this package – so can change anytime one likes.
I just joined this so I can get net access when out and about… just thought I would let people know incase they are interested and as I gewilou like I, can not read the chinese on 3’s website very well… thanks for comments on your review Kaitech (finding same with my Dopod D810 – nice little machine) – very useful reviews and comments – also why I have no hesitation getting 3G data access, as you show it works well… cheers, Andrew
