So far every single store I’ve walked into with a Touch Pro on display, is broken. Lol. Either weird touch screen issues or just dead machine etc. not really feeling too confident about it anymore.. :-
🙁 Every single one broken? … not good!
Luckily my Pro is still alive and healthy and so far I have been quite happy with it too. It is definitely more responsive than my previous Kaiser. One thing noticeable straight out the box is when you slide the keyboard in and out, the switch from portrait to landscape as pretty quick.
My unit has been relatively stable. I was resetting quite frequently in the beginning, but it was mainly due to me installing my old apps onto the Pro. Also I use various utilities for remapping and tweaking and that had me resetting quite often. I think it is running quite stable now.
I really do like the vga screen on this unit. When I put it side by side with the Kaiser I can really see the extra sharpness on the screen.
I installed Slingplayer and it runs nicely. I am quite happy with the increase in video quality I am getting now. It looks so much sharper. I took a picture of Slingplayer in action below.
Oh, and as I was trying out the Slingplayer Mobile this evening I got a message saying that there is a new version out. Head to the Slingplayer Mobile site to download. I am not sure what the update includes, but it should be ver. 18.104.22.168…..minor update I suspect.
I tried out the GPS while I was at the poolside the other day. I managed to get a location fix very quickly the first time I tried. Remember to download some GPS data using QuickGPS first, either with phone or via activesync and you should have no problems. Googlemaps worked nicely and I managed to get Mapking running with no problems either.
With Mapking I was not able to get it to autodetect the GPS com port. If you have trouble as well just go into options and manually set it to Com Port 4 and the software will run fine. Googlemaps seemed to detect the GPS Com Port without trouble.
In comparing Mapking between the Pro and the Kaiser, I found that while driving the map seems to refresh faster on the Pro. So as you are moving along the map seemed to scroll quite smoothly along. With my Kaiser the movement of the map was always quite jerky. Many times I noticed that when I was approaching a turn off the little car on Mapking had still not updated to that location. My experience so far is that the Pro is updating a lot faster.
I have more to add, but am feeling a little tired….continue tomorrow….
