I got a promotional offer for this pda / phone and was sort of excited (umm – fast broadband and an alternative to the expensive soon to be released HTC HD)…
This was until I saw it was a Sony!!!!
… then I remembered back… ohhh… yes…. no worldwide warranty exists for Sony phones and back came the memory of the hassle of having to take my customers phone he purchased in Hong Kong, back after the screen had failed on it in less than a month (no marks on screen and they still claimed it was customer damage – pay to replace it or dump the phone!!!)
Then Sony repair services told me that they wanted 1K HKD for a new screen, which we all know costs them probably HK$30 in China!
To top this off… later when I went to pick up the phone, the silly salesgirl was dumb enough to say…”here comes the nasty gewilou” in Cantonese – thinking I would not understand – alas I did and just gave her a dirty look… (and all I did on the first visit, was tell them the screen was a rip off)… so alas I vowed, that I will never, ever buy a Sony phone for use in Hong Kong!
So if you buy, I hope that your phone is more reliable than their previous models (otherwise you can add an extra HKD 1K to the price and 3 to 5 days hassle getting your screen replaced) – bad customer service, at rip off prices is never forgotten!
Of course there is always the option of getting stores in Samshuipo or Mongkok to replace the screen cheaper (but if you don’t know the store well – we all know your phone has a high chance of coming back less something – risky when is a customer’s phone one is taking to repair lol)… and one has to then also ask themselves clearly – “What was the warranty for!” :idiot
Cheers all – Asiakiwi
