I’ve been using Opera more and more as I’m finding Firefox can really hog a LOT of memory with many tabs open, sometimes crashing completely. So it’s nice to see the latest incarnation of the Opera browser – version 10 with Turbo. The compression is done via Opera’s own servers before being sent to your browser but you can easily turn this on or off via the configuration settings.
# Exclusive Opera Turbo compression boosts slow connection speeds
# Innovative visual tabs displays Web sites in thumbnails
# Intuitive, sleek design
# Easy-to-personalize Speed Dial visual bookmarks
# Everything built-in, no need for extensions
I installed version 10 on top of 9.64 in OS X and it preserved my settings. I noticed Turbo mode was off by default – once I turned it to “Automatic” I noticed a little icon in the bottom left of the browser window.
