Just wondering if Win 7 is available at a special price if you pre-order in HK. I’m trying to find out if it’s available and who can ship it to the UK. I need the Chinese version hence my need to buy from HK and not UK/US.
I have already pre-ordered 2 copies of Window 7 for myself here in the UK for £45 each, the price is very very good, it’s going back up to around £150 in January!!
Do you guys know of any reputable retailer who can ship to the UK and have a website I could take a look at.
ThanksJuly 19, 2009 at 10:18 pm #2136
I would be interested in knowing this too. Any retailers taking pre-orders at special prices? I paid HK$2000+ for the full retail version of Vista Home Premium when it launched 🙁 and sadly it hasn’t been used much at all.July 19, 2009 at 11:56 pm #2137
I take it MS have not release the OS for pre-order yet 🙁 and wow $2000 HKD for Vista Home Premium…. Ouch. At current exchange rate, Win 7 is going for $575 HKD over here 🙂
I would help you out Kai if I knew you were interested in buying Win 7, unfortunately, most retailers have sold their allotted amount and the price is now back at £70.00 🙁
I’m not sure if you’re aware, but the European edition of Win 7 does not come with a web browser and you cannot upgrade with it, full install only, but it does come with both version of the OS, 32 and 64 bit 😀July 21, 2009 at 10:24 am #2138
45 Pounds?!!? That’s a deal of the century. With that price in HK, we expect that to be a pirated copy.
I paid over $5000+ for Vista Ultimate + Office 2007 Pro and I am still using XP and Office 2003 Pro – Vista and Office07 really sucked! I would expect Win7 to be not much better…but for 45 Pounds, I am willing to take a chance. If all else fails, it could look good on the shelf!
Any mail order available?July 21, 2009 at 9:40 pm #2139
There are many online retailers here in the UK selling Win 7, but I seriously doubt if any of them will ship the OS to HK.
If you aer serious about wanting a copy, send me a PM and maybe we can work something out 🙂
Here’s a bit of info regarding the European version of the OS – http://crave.cnet.co.uk/software/0,39029471,49302789,00.htm 🙂July 22, 2009 at 4:00 am #2140
It was great while it lasted, promo price pulled by MS – http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/news.phtml/25651/microsoft-pulls-windows-7-promotional-pricing.phtml It’s a good thing I’ve already ordered my copies 😀July 22, 2009 at 4:20 am #2141
Argh, I guess I’ll “have” to stick my Vista Home Premium 🙂
In the meantime… Get Windows 7 Performance on Your Current PCJuly 22, 2009 at 8:38 am #2142
Thanks for the offer, 8. On second thought, I’ll pass. I was expecting the Pro version, which wasn’t much cheaper than the rest of the world. I think you can buy even cheaper versions across the border in China. Microsoft sells something similar to the European version but for 3rd world countries only and at bargain basement prices.July 23, 2009 at 12:45 am #2143
No worries mate 🙂 Just curious, if MS is selling their OS for such a low low price in China, can I ask why you spent $5K HKD on Vista and Office 07 by buying it in HK 😮August 5, 2009 at 9:00 am #2144
Btw, I just learnt that M$ is offer Windows 7 Family Pack for US$149.99. It comes with 3 licenses of Win7 Home Premium. Looks like you bought your copies a little too soon. 😛August 5, 2009 at 9:05 am #21450ne0neEight wrote:No worries mate 🙂 Just curious, if MS is selling their OS for such a low low price in China, can I ask why you spent $5K HKD on Vista and Office 07 by buying it in HK 😮
1) It only comes as Chinese Simplified and I can barely read Chinese, let alone Simplified.
2) I don’t like crippled apps
3) I need the Ultimate Edition’s features
4) I think you can only buy it in rural areas, not major cities like Shenzhen
5) I support HK retailers!
6) I support legit software (although I often download warez 🙂 )August 5, 2009 at 4:11 pm #2146iTwins wrote:BTW, I just learnt that M$ is offer Windows 7 Family Pack for US$149.99. It comes with 3 licenses of Win7 Home Premium. Looks like you bought your copies a little too soon. 😛
What? Family pack sounds like an Apple thing. Good move though and a great price. Is this going to be available in HK though?
Too bad I won’t need to make use of the bundle. I’ll stick with Vista HP unless I can score an upgrade edition at a (very big) discount.0ne0neEight wrote:I’m not sure if you’re aware, but the European edition of Win 7 does not come with a web browser and you cannot upgrade with it, full install only, but it does come with both version of the OS, 32 and 64 bit 😀
Looks like Windows 7 E is no more:
“Windows 7 E was originally intended to ship without Internet Explorer or any other browser. That idea had not impressed the European Commission. Microsoft’s partners and computer manufacturers also expressed concerned that it would lead to product confusion. Therefore, a single version of Windows 7 will shipped throughout the world that includes IE.”
Instead, they’re going to have a browser selection screen similar to the following:
